UPDATE at 7:27 p.m. — Sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that it seems a small grease fire started in the food court and made its way into the ventilation system. That is apparently what caused the smoke to billow from the top of the mall. Firefighters remain on the scene.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton Fire Rescue is on the scene of Boca Raton Town Center Mall just after 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Witnesses tell BocaNewsNow.com that they saw heavy smoke rising from the roof of Bloomingdale’s. Flames were apparently not seen.

Boca Raton fire fighting professionals quickly determined that something was burning on the roof but that the roof itself seemed to be fine. It wasn’t immediately clear if it was an air conditioning unit, and electrical issue, or something else.

No injuries were reported. Part of the mall is evacuated as firefighters do what they do best. We expect this situation to be under control shortly. If you see police and fire officials at the mall — don’t worry — this is not a repeat of social media hoaxes that involved the thereat of violence.
