COPS: Parents Apparently Not Paying Attention As Sand Entombs Near Fort Lauderdale. One Child Dies. Homicide Detectives Investigating.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The children entombed by sand on the beach in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Tuesday afternoon were visiting with their parents from Indiana. The two children — digging a hole — climbed into the hole. It collapsed, trapping them inside. One child died. The other is hospitalized.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office issued this update to BocaNewsNow.com:
“At approximately 3:16 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting two children trapped in the sand near 4424 El Mar Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded immediately. On scene, emergency personnel located two siblings, 9-year-old Maddox Mattingly and his 5-year-old sister, Sloan Mattingly. Paramedics transported the girl to Broward Health Medical Center. Later that day, Sloan Mattingly was pronounced deceased. Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives responded to investigate.
The preliminary investigation revealed the children and their parents were on vacation from Indiana. Investigators say the children were digging a hole in the sand when they were trapped. The circumstances into this incident remain under investigation.”
There is no way children dug a hole 5ft with a toy sand shovel and bucket. Who did this?
Before you blame parents let’s talk about LBS. 26 years ago I moved to Florida, LBS was my first choice, however having a lot of kids and grandchildren I opted out because THEY DID NOT HAVE LIFEGUARDS. This very wealthy enclave that has guests from all over the world visiting HAS a good number drownings there EACH YEAR because there is NO rescue. In this day and age that is not irresponsible. Agreed?
The sand situation has nothing to do with lifeguards and it is inexplicable that anyone believes that it does. Watch your kids. Plain and simple. Watch your kids.
