A 16-year-old juvenile and a 19-year-old male have been arrested for a January murder in Deerfield Beach.
According to investigators, at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, BSO Deerfield Beach District deputies responded to a call about a single-vehicle crash at Heritage Circle Condominiums at 4354 N.W. Ninth Avenue. When deputies arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive adult male, later identified as 19-year-old Bryan Fonseca, who had crashed into a tree as a result of being shot. The victim was driving a black 2018 Mercedes Benz AMG C43.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded, and Fonseca was transported to Broward Health North.
BSO’s Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) was notified to investigate. On Friday, Feb. 2, Fonseca was pronounced deceased, and the case was turned over to BSO’s Homicide Unit.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to two suspects, a 16-year-old juvenile and 19-year-old Omari Garcia. According to investigators, the 16-year-old was arrested by the Coral Springs Police Department on Thursday, Feb. 29, on an unrelated charge. On March 2, detectives obtained arrest warrants for both suspects for the murder of Fonseca. The juvenile, who was already in custody, received an additional charge of felony murder in the third degree. On March 6, BSO V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) detectives located and arrested Garcia in Miami on a charge of felony murder in the third degree.
