Traffic Backing Up Into Broward County. Do Not Head South On I-95.

UPDATE: 9:20 a.m. — I-95 is officially open again.
UPDATE: 9:06 a.m. — The suspect is now in custody. The situation was resolved by a robotic dog that opened the vehicle’s door. SWAT then moved in. Traffic should soon, slowly, start returning to normal.
UPDATE: 8:03 a.m. — The situation worsens. Traffic is backed up southbound past Griffin Road. I-95 remains completely shut. The suspect remains barricaded in his vehicle.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A barricaded suspect in a vehicle around Miami Gardens Drive on I-95 in Miami-Dade County is leading to a traffic nightmare as of 6:30 Tuesday morning. I-95 is completely shut southbound, with traffic being forced off at Ives Dairy Road. That’s the equivalent of moving a 747 through a straw. I-95 is a parking lot, with traffic backing up into Broward County.
The incident started in Broward County. Here’s the latest from the Broward Sheriff’s Office:
“At approximately 11:52 p.m., Monday, April 1, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an armed robbery incident near the 2700 block of South State Road 7 in West Park. On scene, deputies made contact with a female victim who stated a known individual carjacked her at gunpoint. A BOLO (Be-On-The-Look-Out) was issued for the vehicle and subject to surrounding agencies. Through investigative means, the vehicle was located, and a pursuit ensued in both Broward and Miami-Dade counties with Miami-Dade P.D. assistance.
According to investigators, shortly before 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, the vehicle crashed along the off-ramp of Interstate 95 Southbound at Miami Gardens Drive. The subject has barricaded himself in the vehicle. BSO and MDPD are currently on scene working this active incident.
Interstate 95 Southbound at Ives Dairy Road is shut down until further notice. Motorist are asked to seek alternate routes.“
