BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Newly installed Superintendent of Schools in Broward County, Peter Licata, just announced his retirement at the end of the calendar year.

Licata was a longtime deputy superintendent and leading administrator in the Palm Beach County School District before getting the nod last year to lead the Broward School District. He entered a multi-year deal when the job took effect on July 1st.

Licata cited the retirement as a decision made with family and doctors. He is 59. No medical condition or ailment was revealed. His voice was shaking as he announced his decisions Tuesday morning.

A member of the Broward School Board suggested that his contract be terminated immediately without cause, and a deputy superintendent be installed.
