BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It may be Mother’s Day, but Boca Rudeton never takes a break from finding the self-absorbed people who apparently believe it’s perfectly fine to bring a pet into a supermarket in South Palm Beach County. It’s not. It’s illegal. But that didn’t stop several people from seemingly violating the law by bringing their dogs into Publix and Joseph’s Italian Market over the past several days.

Our abbreviated holiday version of Boca Rudeton this Sunday highlights two apparent scofflaws. We’ll name our winner at the end.

Woman with dog in Joseph’s Italian Market in Boca Raton.
Why does this woman have a dog in Joseph’s Italian Market at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton?

We start with the woman who brought her dog into Joseph’s Italian Market at Boca Raton’s Town Center Mall. Joseph’s seems to have a real problem with dogs. We are constantly receiving images of shoppers with dogs at both the locations at Lyons and Atlantic in West Delray, and the location at the mall. There are signs that say “no pets,” but that doesn’t seem to stop these inconsiderate reading-impaired shoppers from doing whatever they want to do — just like the woman above.

Polo Shops Publix Dog
Does this dog in the Polo Shops Publix in Boca Raton look like a highly trained service animal? We’re just wondering.

Our second nominee today is the man with a dog at the Publix at Polo Shops in Boca Raton. Publix couldn’t make it any more clear that pets are not welcome. Legitimate service animals are perfectly fine. But that implies legal, legitimate training of an animal that performs a specific function. It doesn’t include silly “emotional support animals” that imply the person with the ESA is so unable to deal with the world around them, they shouldn’t leave their home in the first place. Does this pet look like a highly trained service animal? You decide.

Does this man really need to have a dog in the Fresh Market at Federal Highway and Linton Blvd. in Delray Beach?

Our next nominee: The man above in blue with a dog in a satchel in the Fresh Market at Federal Highway and Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach. The questions write themselves so we’ll let you ponder all of them on your own. But no, this isn’t okay.

Our winner: it has to be the woman with a dog in Joseph’s — a place where there is open, exposed food everywhere and a furry beast just doesn’t belong. For her, we bestow our Boca Rudeton prize of the “BocaNewsNow.com guide to living in a civilized society.” We don’t actually have prizes, but if we did, we’re sure she’d appreciate our manual. It’s clear she needs something. We note, however, that it was very close this week. The dog in the bag at Fresh Market is unacceptable on so many levels.

We remind our readers that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be rude here! Send your submissions to us using the menu buttons above. 1. I don’t understand why people have such a problem with bringing dogs into a store! If the dog is trained properly, it’s not barking or biting people, or not peeing or pooping in the store, then what exactly is the problem? Kids are dirtier, and make more noise than dogs in stores! You complainers need to gr over it!

    1. Wrong, wrong. People have allergies, asthma. Yes they have done their business around food.
My friend saw a dog lift its leg. Why are we having this conversation at all. DOGS DON”T BELONG AROUND FOOD PRODUCTS. No one know where these dogs have been, etc. It is called common sense and caring about others.

    2. Really!!!! I’ve seen big sis fight in TJ’S, a pit bull in the basket, a dog on a leash in Costco have diarrhea on the isle and the woman just walked on…. many more examples I could give…. leave your dogs at home people where they are more comfortable…. dogs ( except for genuine service dogs) do NOT belong in markets or restaurants….too many entitled selfish people in Boca and Delray….

    3. It’s literally against store policy, it’s a health risk, it’s gross.

Maybe your families kids are dirtier than dogs but you don’t speak for the rest of us. Dogs are definitely dirtier than our children.

Maybe take a bath without your dogs at the same time?

Maybe also you don’t need your stinky dog with your everywhere?

  2. Walter. You have a point. What is the Board of Health doing? Nothing. None of these Food Establishments care. They don’t want to approach the dog people who feel entitled to bring their dog everywhere. They don’t want to approach these rude, disgusting, entitled people. Here is one for all of you. I get allergy shots for my allergies to dogs, cats and other. When I got my shot Friday a woman came into the ENT Office waiting room with a dog. Yes, that’s right, where everyone comes for allergies, sinus infections, etc. a dog. But yet we are told no perfume as people may react to it. People are allergic, have asthma, etc. they don’t care, if someone passed out due to being in contact with a dog, the dog owner would walk over them with their dog. This world has gone batsh__crazy. Dogs are treated better than humans, there is no common courtesy or thought of another person at all. HEY PUBLIX AND JOSEPHS, WHY DON’T YOU OPEN A STORE JUST FOR DOG SHOPPERS, SO WE CAN ALL SHOP IN PEACE.

    1. Oh really Judith. How lucky for you that you don’t have asthma, allergies, COPD and other health related issues where you could be very ill if exposed. You are just like the rest of the dog people who don’t care about anyone else. Who in their right minds take animals into food establishments. People make other comments about children vs. dogs. Really. Judith good for you that dogs don’t bother you, but it isn’t about YOU it is about others, and thinking of how your behavior affects others. Taking Dogs into stores affects many people. There is a place for dogs, and it isn’t in restaurants or food establishments, if you can’t live without them and taking them with, stay home and cook a meal and eat with them there. Its selfish, entitled and disgusting.

    2. How wonderful for you Judith, of course they don’t bother you because it is all about YOU. You are like all these others who don’t care about anyone but themselves. They don’t think about others and how this affects them.
You don’t give a rip about those who have allergies, have COPD, who have asthma and the filth they leave behind where people buy their food.

  3. I was in Publix on Lyons and Atlantic. A woman with a dog on a leash was stopped talking to a STORE EMPLOYEE! As I passed them I said dogs are not allowed in the store. Her response: “Mind your own fucking business”. When she walked away I said something to the worker. His response: I know, but the manager isn’t here” WTF!

  4. Security Guard There there anybody s should be hired and authorized to issue subpoenas to appear in court to face judge whom will decide fine.

    1. if there was a disaster, fire or the roof caved in at any of these establishments, it woulD be a dog that would go in and save their life’s! I would have a dog with me in these stores then most of these complaining people!! Find something else to complain about!

      1. If a dog could save me from a burning building, it would have been trained to do so and be legal with a legit service vest. But a toy breed is going to save me from a burning building? That’s rich…

      2. Lucky for you Stuart, that you don’t have health issues if you come in contact with these DOGS WHO DON”T BELONG IN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS. You are like the rest of these people who could care less about anyone else but themselves.

  5. How can a small dog in a bag bother you? That’s so ridiculous. I’d rather see a small dog than some screaming little uncontrolled kids whose mothers are too busy on their cell phones to keep their little monsters in line. I don’t understand the dog hating mentality in this town.

    1. Really Susan, you too are like the rest of these people who could care less about anyone else but themselves. People have health issues, people who are allergic get shots, that isn’t fun. People who have asthma, and COPD and others. But you don’t care. Dogs are more important, than anyone.
THEY DON’T BELONG IN FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS. STAY HOME AND COOK FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG

  6. I was ien Home Depot one day, and this lady snapped at me like a pit bull. People have gotten extremely nasty towards other people. It’s just not safe anymore to say anything to a person. You don’t know if they will pull out a
    gun. Be careful out there.

    1. Barbara you are so right. Especially dog people. You see the comments here how these people have no respect for human life and what health issues people are going through to get exposed to dogs and cats, etc. out there. Look what you went through it is awful. But the Health Dept. and the State need to step up and fine the stores if they don’t stop this. How scary for you.

  7. It has been 90+ degrees outside…..why would anyone risk taking their pet out in this weather for any reason? There are flat tires, wrecks, car break downs….yes, even with a BMW or Mercedes. The animals belong inside in air conditioning…not in the stores, not in the restaurants…Keep them at home or for a walk in neighborhood. Some of these dogs use “pee pee pads” and don’t even see the outside unless there’s a restaurant or grocery store on the agenda.!!!

  8. One thing to think about. Never pet someone’s dog without asking. Little dogs get scared, and bite. My mini poodles snap and growl if touched by a stranger. They are small, and get frightened. Mine are always home. But they have tried to bite the vet. I don’t bring my dogs out much. And I avoid dog parks because of fleas. There are plenty of clothing stores and hardware stores that allow dogs. Along with outdoor restaurants. It is rude to pet a dog without asking the owner. The same goes for dogs on a walk. Don’t pet a dog without asking permission of the owner. Little dogs are really cute. But resist touching other peoples dogs.

    1. Ivy,
This isn’t about petting a dog. It is about people taking their dogs everywhere, restaurants and Duffy’s let a non-service dog inside. We had that, and the dog smelled so bad. Dogs don’t belong in restaurants, they don’t belong in food establishments, they don’t belong in home goods, they belong at home. If people can’t leave the dog home for an hour to shop they have a problem.
