BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — There is a heat advisory in effect for South Palm Beach County and much of South Florida on Wednesday. While the thermometer reading today may max out at 96, the “real feel” or “heat index” temperature is going to soar up to 106.
The National Weather Service issued these key advisory notes early Wednesday:
“Excessive Heat: Heat indices of 100 to 106 degrees are forecast across most of the area today. Fire Weather: Generally dry conditions, potential lightning strikes from thunderstorms, and elevated dispersions due to a tightening pressure gradient causing high wind speeds are all contributors to an elevated fire weather risk today.
Thunderstorms: Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible today, mainly across inland areas, around Lake Okeechobee, and in Palm Beach County. A strong to severe thunderstorm with gusty winds and hail cannot be ruled out today across the northern areas.
Marine: Hazardous marine conditions will continue across the Atlantic waters as southerly to southwesterly winds range between 20 and 25 kts with gusts to 30 kts.”
Palm Beach County earlier this week issued a list of cooling stations and parks with water attractions that are open and available to anyone seeking to cool off.
