Few Restaurants Enforce The Law. But Dominic’s Boca Raton Is Keeping It Clean For People Who Don’t Feel A Need To Bring Their Pooch Everywhere.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton restaurant is among the first that we’ve seen to officially ban dogs — telling dog people that they’re not being denied service, but that they can’t bring their animal in the restaurant designed for humans. Not only do we say, “way to go,” but love that Dominic’s puts the people who bring dogs everywhere in their place. That place is outside.

The restaurant’s position is apparently legally sound. No one is being denied anything. If you want food, they’ll bring it to you. If you want a beverage, that’s no problem. But what you can’t do is bring your dog into the restaurant where it affects other people. The restaurant has four locations: 8177 Glades Road, 9834 Glades Road, 6566 Hypoluxo Road in Lake Worth, and 1790 North Congress in Boynton Beach.
BocaNewsNow.com’s reporting on the dog problem in its stores led to Publix erecting signs at its locations statewide, telling the self-absorbed dog owners that the store isn’t a dog park. Only legitimate service animals — those that provide a service for which it was trained — are allowed inside. Emotional Support Animals, as we’ve reported, are not real service animals. They are not covered by statutes that permit some animals in some places.
The dog problem continues to be a problem in and around South Palm Beach County. The image above shows a woman with a dog in Doris’ Market (9101 Lakeridge Blvd. in Boca Raton) on Sunday, May 26th. We displayed multiple apparent violations in Joseph’s Italian Market in Both West Delray Beach and at Town Center Mall in Boca Raton last week. These stores, at times, look more like dog parks than food markets.

At Dominic’s, the language couldn’t be more clear and appears to be well lawyered with a human touch: “Sorry, No Dogs Allowed. Florida law doesn’t require owners of public accommodations to let them in. And the federal Food and Drug Administration prohibits dogs and other animals from being in restaurants, grocery stores, and other places where food is prepared. We are not denying service. You may ask a staff member for assistance to pick up or place an order to go).”
We support Dominic’s (where the food is excellent) and other restaurants engaging in a similar practice. If your restaurant is banning dogs, we’d be happy to include you in our upcoming “safe from dogs dining guide” that will be published soon. Just email news(at)BocaNewsNow.com or use our news tip form above.

So glad to see that Dominic’s took a stand. I love dogs and have had them for decades. They stay home when I shop and eat out. I only wish more stores and restaurants would grow a pair and enforce the law. I have noticed that the Publix I frequent used to have their sign prominently posted before the store entrance but now it is gone and a smaller sign is attached at the glass entry close to the bottom. Nowhere near as visible. Seems they are slipping backwards.
Dogs in grocery stores are standard in Palm Beach county! When I informed the store staff about the presence of dogs I was ignored even no one word as an answer. This law MUST be enforced and monitored by county/state authorized person; the consequence of breaking this law should be a fine for the manager of this store. I often saw old ladies pushing a shopping cart with effort, with a cane and a dog inside. Your dog or cat can and should stay at home during the shopping season.
What’s your problem with service dogs in a restaurant or outside cafe or in a grocery store?
What harm is it to you?
But snot-blowing, food-flinging, screaming kids are ok when three bussers & a hazmat team are needed to clean up after said kid it grandkid?
I’ll take my 8- lb real service dog in my lap any day.
I have a Real Service Dog also
I have to take her with me, as I have Epilepsy. I understand not putting her in a shopping cart, but I need her at all times. I bring my Doggie stroller into stores or restaurants so she doesn’t disturb anyone, but she needs to be by my side to warn me of an upcoming seizure. She has a tag saying not to separate her from me and I have a medical bracelet
You do not have a service dog. No such thing as a 8 pound service dog. You are the problem.
Snot-blowing, food-flinging, screaming kids don’t walk around barefoot outside (on all fours) stepping in their own feces and urine, then come inside the house to track it around everywhere, licking their genitals whenever there’s an itch. Keep that nastiness away from my food!
Good to hear. Let’s hope it is enforced.
And for the usual posters arguing that dogs are cleaner than kids and this isn’t news, do us all a favor and unsubscribe.
Way to go Dominics. However they always had that right to ban all dogs with the exception of Service Animals. The Law is the law. Enforcement of the Law is what everyone and each establishment to do. I am tired however of people attacking me when my dog is clearly a Service Animal trained for 2 years to assist me deal with my personal disabilities. My dog wears a service vest and is incredibly well behaved.
Great job Dominics!!!!
Spread the word and things will be ok
Thank you
Our new go to restaurant. Others need to follow and enforce the laws. We used to shop at Josephs at least twice a week but will not step foot in their supermarket any longer until they stop dogs from coming in their stores. And you people have some freaking nerve thinking it’s ok to bring your non true service animals into places that sell food.
Still a big problem. Allowing dogs in food stores or places that carry food poses health risks and hygiene concerns.
At Millers Ale house this past Saturday. A customer brought his dog into the dinning area in a baby carnage. Miller’s did nit care.
Thank you for the warning as a disabled veteran with service animals now I know not to visit Florida especially Boca Raton. My 90+ y.o. mother lives in Florida and I’m reaching the point that you cannot pay me to go visit her because of the prejudices towards people with legitimate service dogs in Florida.
You are not too smart are you? Service animals are permitted, emotional support animals are not. It says it right on the sign. Too many individuals have abused the emotional support animal program.
You obviously didn’t read the article. The problem is not with trained service animals. It’s with entitled dog owners that unlawfully take their animals into stores and restaurants.
Terry, read the post
Sorry Terry, there are a few restaurants in Boyton Beach where I can take my sweet dog, who brothers no one, just wants to be with me. Most animals are cleaner then people.
Unfortunately you and the other self entitled people are the problem and if I’m near a dog in a store with my allergies well look out
Thank you for staying away!
No one has a problem with actual service dogs. Why can’t people take the time to actually read an article before hopping on their soap boxes? SERVICE ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED AND WELCOME!!!! All other pets are not allowed!!! Either you did not actually read the article or you got your panties in a twist because you don’t have a REAL service dog and have one of those after market service dog harnesses.
Dominic’s will be my “go to” restaurant from now on for its bold and correct dog policy.
It’s funny when you think about it. You can bring in a service animal miniature horse into the restaurant, but a “recreational” Chihuahua kept in your handbag that never even touches the floor is banned because of health reasons. Logically explain how this makes sense from a food safety perspective.
Because service animals under the law are viewed as medical equipment not pets. A person needs them because of an illness or a physical disability. Some of which are invisible to others.
You can make silly comparisons like that for just about any rule, point is, dogs don’t belong anywhere food is sold, prepared or eaten. Leave Rover home, I guarantee you he’ll be happier.
Jake all people do not like dogs. I love mine and thank God I am allowed to take him with me to many places. He brothers no one, gets in his little bed and goes to sleep until we leave.
A horse does not qualify as a service animal. And please stay out of Florida.
You are wrong… miniature horse 100% qualifies as a legit service animal. Try this thing called Google
Way to go Dominics! We will be sure to visit if in the area. I hope you have the courage to enforce this.
Ok yea for Dominics. Let’s get this clear. Dominics did not cure cancer. They banned certain dogs from the restaurant. What’s everyone cheering about? get a grip people. Go to restaurants that are fair to everyone. If I have my little dog and I’m hungry I Always sit outside if they let me in I’ll go in. Never had a problem.I’m Always respectful to the establishment. But to say yea! Let’s go to Dominics “they don’t let dogs in”. Get real. Or get a DOG. There’s some people in Boca I would ban from restaurants before dogs.
Now when do we get the undiciplined, smelly, disease riddled kids out? I would rathet lick a dogs butt than sit next to somebody’s obnoxious brat!
Wish publix would enforce the law
Wish publix would enforce the law
* Side Note – Don’t ya all just love how some of the Red-Hats dog owners above love to compare *actual human children* to dogs, with dogs being their chosen preference ? That should tell you all you need to know about how radical the Republican Party has become in 2024 !
And BIG PROPS to Dominic’s for their OG DOG BAN ! 👏🏼 Will be ordering food from you guys online via Uber tonight !
Also updated my Yelp review of Joseph’s Boca Store to ONE STAR 😧 Maybe they will get the message now ?
For me, it has nothing to do with the dog. It’s the entitled people who don’t care what anyone else thinks. My wife and son are very allergic to dogs so we prefer to not have them in close proximity.
Yeah! Dominics. You have our business and that of our family and friends. Thanks for taking
the stand. Thanks for being a good citizen.
Vicki and Laurie, it is people like you who have made this happen. Which we are all delighted. How dare both of you. You are selfish and have no respect for anyone. What about people who have health issues, asthma, allergies to dogs, etc. Because you can’t leave your animal home others have to suffer. They are animals, we are humans. They don’t belong in a food establishment of any kind. The comment about snotty kids. Well lady, they are banned from the beach due to disease. They don’t lift their legs on food in food stores and leave deposits on the floor in a establishment where we buy food. You need therapy.
All of you need to get a life and mind your own fing business. Who cares don’t you people have way bigger issues, America’s isn’t going to shit it’s gone and you folks are the problem. You elected a senile, corrupt president, and your dumb asses keep electing the same corrupt politicians over and over, you have let them take your God given I repeat GOD given rights, not America given rights, away. We are taxed beyond belief and your worried about a fing dog in the grocery or a restaurant. Well you pussies are the first I’m coming for when shit hits the fan and those banks close one Friday and you can’t get your money or the power goes out and you can’t do anything but bend over and kiss your ass goodbye
