PARKLAND, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — An early Tuesday morning carjacking on the Sawgrass Expressway is slowing traffic as of 5:45 a.m. Expect the scene to continue throughout the morning.
According to sources familiar with the situation, police and fire rescue were called to the scene on the Sawgrass Expressway near University Drive just after 4 a.m. The initial dispatch was for an injured person, but police then learned the victim had been carjacked. It was unclear if the carjacking was “attempted” or actually successful.
A short time later, police requested assistance from a helicopter to search for additional victims. It was not immediately clear how many additional victims there may be, why they wouldn’t be at the initial scene, and whether or not a suspect has been identified.
The Sawgrass Expressway is not closed, but expect delays in both directions near University Drive throughout the morning as detectives work the scene. This is a developing story. Check back later Tuesday for updates.
