BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Loxahatchee man is facing a potential DUI vehicular homicide charge following the death of a Boynton Beach woman was critically injured on June 7th and died several days later.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says Arlene Dym, 78, of the 9700 block fo Summerbrook Terrace in Boynton Beach was executing a U-Turn in the 7200 block of Boynton Beach Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7th, Francisco Zavala, driving a vehicle with no headlights on, slammed into her. The force of the crash rotated Dym’s 2020 Subaru Crosstek “toward the south side of the roadway, mounting the curb where it struck a wooden pole with its front passenger quarter panel,” according to police.
”Dym sustained critical life threatening injuries and was transported to Delray Medical Center where she remained intubated.” Dym died at 7:12 p.m. Thursday.
Police say Zavala showed “signs of impairment” at the scene. A toxicology test is being processed. We note traffic homicide investigations in Palm Beach County — and much of the country — can take up to a year before an arrest is made, if an arrest is appropriate based on the circumstances of the incident.
There is help out there for substance problems. Now he will be in big trouble for killing someone with a car while he was drunk. I had my own issues with alcohol and got help. Thank God I didn’t kill or hurt someone while impaired. People drive bad enough without being impaired. I hope the courts will do something. We don’t need people driving while impaired.
