BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s okay to kill bears on your property and it’s okay for Chaplains to counsel children in public schools. Welcome to the new laws now in effect in Florida on July 1st, 2024.

More than 100 new laws are in effect in the State of Florida. Among them: a new law that basically expands Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law to include bears. If there’s a bear on your property, and you feel threatened, you are now allowed to kill it without fear of prosecution. The rule, however: you must notify the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission within 24 hours of the kill.

In Public Schools and charter schools, Chaplains are now allowed to cross the barrier that is supposed to be church and state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law several months ago that lets Chaplains counsel students on public and charter school grounds. Chaplains must disclose their religion and parents must approve the interaction with their child. Chaplains must pass a background check, and representatives from the “satanic temple” are prohibited from taking part.

Also in effect today: local municipalities may not institute rules for workers that mandate work breaks, water breaks, or other efforts at sheltering workers from heat or hot weather. Gov. DeSantis says that national rules and regulations are enough to protect Florida’s outdoor workers regardless of the weather .
