BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The National Weather Service is warning that it may be a wild weather day in Palm Beach County today. While the “real feel” temperatures could hit 100 to 105, it’s strong thunderstorms that could cause problems.
”Scattered thunderstorms will develop across the region as the day progresses,” says the weather service. “The strongest storms could contain wind gusts up to 50 mph, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. Slow moving thunderstorms combined with the potential for heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding.”
The thunderstorm advisory comes as the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a system off the coast of Florida. While unlikely to develop into a threat, it is a reminder that forecasters believe this will be an extremely active hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center issued this advisory Thursday morning:
“A broad area of low pressure located a few hundred miles off the southeastern U. S. coast continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions do not appear favorable for much additional development of this system over the next day or two before it moves inland over the southeastern U. S. by this weekend. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall will be possible for portions of the Carolina coast late this week into the weekend for heavy rainfall.”
