BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man who told police he lives in Century Village Boca Raton is facing a battery charge following his arrest by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. But in a departure from the traditional age group of a Century Village resident, the man in question is 27 years old.

Nelson Castellon lives in the Mansfield D section of Century Village, the senior living community near Lyons Road and Yamato Road in West Boca Raton. It was not immediately clear if he is living with a resident who is a senior citizen or someone else. The registered owner of the unit does not share his last name.

Castellon was taken into custody on July 19th around 5:30 p.m. The arrest report continues to be processed early Tuesday, July 23rd. We don’t know where Castellon was arrested, whether police were called to Century Village, or if the allege victim lives in the community.

BocaNewsNow.com records indicate this is just the third arrest of a Century Village Boca Raton resident during the 2024 calendar year. It is a much lower arrest count that Kings Point, the other major area senior living community. As we reported on Monday, Kings Point Delray Beach has now logged at least 17 resident arrests during the 2024 calendar year, and 37 since the start of 2023.

Castellon was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on $1000 bond. A court date is pending.

  1. F.Y.I.: Century Village is an 80/20 community. What is the 80/20 rule for 55 communities in Florida?
In short, the 80/20 rule provides that at least 80% of the occupied homes have one resident who is 55 or older, and the community must continue to show intent to provide housing for adults 55 and older. The 20% is there as a cushion, allowing some flexibility in age requirements. -Apr 7, 2023

So please stop inferring that an under-55 resident is breaking a rule. So long as just ONE PERSON is 55 or older, then the roommate. spouse, child etc, may be under 55. Furthermore, if the 55+ resident passes away, the under 55 gets to stay alone because of hardship. No more than 20% of the units may lack a 55+ resident or the village loses the right to legally discriminate by age. For Century Village that would be 1,142 units. We are nowhere near that number now or in the foreseeable future.
