BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Nothing bad was happening at Florida Atlantic University this morning if you heard sirens or saw questionable activity. We completely forgot to report on a test that was scheduled for Monday morning of the school’s lightning detection system. It was tested at 10 a.m.
“Here is the advisory we meant to run but never did. Our apologies to those who were concerned — but at least you now know officially what happened:
Florida Atlantic University will test a new lightning detection system at its Boca Raton campus today, Monday, July 29. The test will take place at approximately 10 a.m. this morning, is anticipated to take no longer than two hours, and will not affect any other FAU campus.
The primary function of the lightning detection system is to provide audio/visual warnings of lightning in the areas of the A.D. Henderson/Florida Atlantic High School facilities and the Boca Raton campus’ athletic fields.
The test will include siren horns and strobes that will be activated at five installed locations across the campus. Individuals on campus may hear both warning (one long burst) and clear (three short bursts) from the sirens through multiple rounds of tests.
Inclement weather may delay the test or postpone it to a future date.”
