DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — As if winning the U.S. Open and taking part in the Olympics isn’t enough, Delray Beach resident Coco Gauff is heading to a cereal shelf near you — and making a sizable donation Delray Beach. General Mills shared this announcement with BocaNewsNow.com:
Wheaties is thrilled to announce a new, limited-edition box featuring tennis champion, role model for young athletes everywhere, and Delray Beach native Coco Gauff. This announcement comes on the heels of tennis icon Billie Jean King’s box debut earlier this year.
At just 19 years old, in 2023, Gauff accomplished the dream of becoming the youngest American since Serena Williams (1999) to win the US Open. In 2024, she was the only athlete and youngest honoree named to TIME’s Women of the Year list. Ranked the #2 Women’s Singles player in the world and with seven Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles titles, Gauff is the definition of a Wheaties Champion.
A fighter on and off the court, Gauff is known for her activism, using her voice to fight social and racial inequalities and working to make the sport more accessible for children in underprivileged areas. The tennis star draws inspiration from her grandmother, Yvonne Lee, who was the first to integrate her Florida high school in 1961.
On August 20, Coco will join Billie Jean King on stage at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center during US Open Fan Week as King “Passes the Torch” of the honor as a Wheaties Champion to another generation of greatness with Gauff. The two will share their experience throughout the decades shaping the world of tennis and continuing to define what it means to be a Wheaties Champion.
In tandem with Coco’s box debut, she will be donating $50K to City of Delray Beach Parks & Recs to help provide underserved residents ability to participate in sports programs for free. Coco Gauff’s limited-edition cereal box will be available at major retailers starting in August for $6.19.
