PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A student visiting from Norway apparently suffered a medical emergency and died while in a swimming pool on the Keiser University campus. The West Palm Beach Police Department provided BocaNewsNow with the 911 call which you can listen to, below. Police also provided this narrative:
A 20-year-old college student pulled from a campus pool Sunday died shortly after arriving at the hospital and police are considering this accidental. At 12:03 p.m. September 15, a 911 caller said there was a person at the bottom of the pool at 2331 Northwood University Dr. Instructions were given by 911 tele communicators to remove the victim from the water and begin CPR.
Campus security responded and continued resuscitation efforts until West Palm Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived. The victim, identified as Ruben Tronhus, 20, a student from Norway who lived in Spain, died at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
West Palm Beach Police Department Violent Crimes Unit detectives said that Tronhus was with his roomate at the tennis courts when Tronhus left for the pool. Two students found the victim at the bottom of the pool and summoned help. Detectives confirmed that Tronhus had a medical condition that contributed to the drowning, which the medical examiner ruled as the cause of death.
