DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A 39-year-old unidentified Delray Beach man is dead following a two car crash at I-95 and Atlantic Avenue overnight. Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the death to BocaNewsNow.com.

According to investigators, the deceased man was driving northbound in a 2011 Kia Optima around 12:20 Saturday morning when he rear-ended a 2012 Toyota Camry, also driven by a 39-year-old male. it was unclear why the driver of the Optima hit the Camry. They were both heading northbound in the same lane.

“Post collision with the Camry,” wrote a traffic homicide investigator, “the Optima was redirected to the left and struck the concrete barrier wall with its front portion. The Optima bounced off the wall and came to a stop on the inside shoulder, facing north. Post collision, the Camry made a controlled stop on the outside shoulder, facing north. The driver of the Optima was transported to Delray Medical Center and was later pronounced deceased.”

The investigation continues. I-95 was shut down overnight as Florida Highway Patrol documented the scene. Neither the driver of the Camry, nor a passenger in the Camry were injured.
