BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Palm Beach County says all beach parks in Palm Beach County are closed today due to Hurricane Helene, but the City of Boca Raton just posted to X that its beach parks are open but under a double-red-flag warning. Here’s the takeaway: while municipalities may be taking part in a bit of mixed-messaging, it’s dangerous out there. You may think you’re an exceptionally strong swimmer, but you’re not. Don’t go into the water today whether you think swimming is allowed, or not.
We hear of water rescues all the time — even when the ocean isn’t being impacted by a major storm. Many are successful, some, sadly, are not. We do not want you to be a victim of a poor choice. Walking on the beach is one thing. Going into the water is something else.
We are awaiting clarification from the City of Boca Raton as to whether the city’s beach parks are in fact open today. We do know anything controlled by Palm Beach County is closed. Take it for what it’s worth: you can be ticketed or even arrested for trespass if you are on a beach or other public facility that is closed.
