BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A tornado ripped across Alligator Alley Wednesday morning as thousands of people evacuating from Florida’s west coast were on the road trying to find safety. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.

The National Weather Service shared this image from traffic cameras in the area. The area was under a Tornado Warning at the time. Alligator Alley was — and is — at near gridlock conditions. Traffic is largely start and stop. The State of Florida has lifted all tolls and now permits driving on the shoulder in many situations which is helping traffic flow.

We will update once we learn more about damage caused — if any — by the tornado. Note that most of the region remains under a Tornado Watch and Tropical Storm Warning as Hurricane Milton nears.
