BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s been more than a month since Boca Raton’s Town Center Mall was locked down after someone called cops and said bombs and guns were in a car on mall property as part of a planned massacre. After 35 days, however, the Boca Raton Police Department has failed to make any arrests or provide the public with updated information on the case.
BocaNewsNow.com has repeatedly requested updates from the Boca Raton Police Department since we first reported on the incident that left hundreds — if not thousands of people — fearing for their lives as they hid in closets and bathrooms, praying that a gunman didn’t find them and kill them. After hours and hours of contradictory information, it turned out there was no threat — just apparently a group of kids who thought it would be funny if someone live-streaming from the mall got stuck IN the mall during a lockdown. It’s believed the kids called in the bogus gun and bomb claim.
Boca Raton Police have refused to release the 911 calls that led to the lockdown. The department won’t even provide a transcript of the calls that could explain why the department responded the way it did — a huge response that locked down the mall for hours while depleting resources in other parts of the city. Sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that City of Boca Raton leadership was — and remains — outraged at the department’s handling of the incident, and its continued silence.
In a region of the United States were people who make threatening calls to schools, airports, or other facilities are routinely located and arrested within hours, the fact that Boca Raton Police investigators have failed to arrest anyone more than a month after the incident is notable. Multiple sources are providing two themes: First, they suggest the parents of one of the suspects may be connected to the city. We have no way of knowing if this is true since police won’t comment at all. Second: sources say that Boca Raton Police leadership attempted to blame Simon Properties (NYSE: SPG) — the company that owns Boca Raton Town Center Mall — for the lockdown. The claim: police told the mall to evacuate, but Simon ordered a “lockdown,” dramatically changing the length of the incident and the level of panic. Officially, Simon won’t comment. Sources in the mall, however, say the police claim is “absurd.”
