BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The City of Boca Raton just suffered another major crime, and officials seem to be trying to keep it quiet. Instead of alerting local media to a carjacking on SW 18th Street in broad daylight Thursday, the police department posted a short note to Facebook. Why is that weird? Because under public records laws, the city doesn’t own — nor control — the content it posts to social media. It did not post information to the official City of Boca Raton website as of 6:55 p.m. It did not email blast local legitimate media of the crime.

Here’s the post: Just before 2:30 p.m,m this afternoon, a victim was sitting inside her gray 2024 Mercedes AMG in the driveway of a residence along SW 18th Street when she was approached by a male holding a gun. The male ordered the victim out of the vehicle and entered the driver’s seat. The vehicle fled the area eastbound on SW 18th Street. The victim was not injured.

The suspect was described as thin-build black male, between 20-30 years old, wearing gray sweatpants and a gray hooded sweatshirt. If you have any information in reference to this case, please contact Detective Dale Graham at (561) 620-6175.

We remind our readers that the City of Boca Raton was recently ordered to pay $2M in legal fees as a result of a public records lawsuit which the city lost.
