DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A pedestrian died Tuesday morning after being struck by a Tri-Rail train just north of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Police were first to respond to the scene a little after 7:30 a.m. Delray Beach Fire Rescue arrived moments later and confirmed the death.
While the Delray Beach Police Department has not yet responded to a request for information, BocaNewsNow.com has learned that police and rescue professionals had a challenging time finding the victim who was ultimately located down the tracks from where the Tri-Rail engineer believed the strike took place. The train remained just north of the scene. Tri-Rail stopped all traffic on the tracks while the investigation was conducted. Tri-Rail’s real-time information center shows that a “bus bridge” was put into place to get customers from one side of the closed tracks to the other. Service appears to be normal as of 8:45 a.m.
We have no information yet concerning the victim. We do not know whether it is a male or female, or whether or not police believe the death was “suicide by train.” Between Tri-Rail and Brightline, South Florida is one of the most dangerous locations in the nation when it comes to train-related injuries and deaths.
Check back for updates.
