On March I, 2025, l was conducting proactive patrol in the vicinity of Hypoluxo Road and Seacrest Boulevard is unincorporated Lantana, FL 33462, when I observed a black Toyota Camry rapidly accelerate while traveling eastbound with the trunk open. I subsequently traveled eastbound as well until E Coast Ave, where I conducted a traffic stop using my emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle came lo a stop at 115 E Coast Ave, Lantana, FL 33462.
As I approached the passenger side of the vehicle, l observed a white male, the sole occupant sitting in the driver’s seat. In the passenger seat was a white backpack. I informed the driver that I had observed him accelerating quickly through the roadways with his license plate not legible due to the trunk being open and unsecured. Upon speaking with the driver, he became argumentative and required multiple requests to provide his license, registration, and proof of insurance. While asking for his information, he attempted to raise the window multiple times, making it difficult to communicate and receive the necessary paperwork. He then atterapted lo retrieve the requested paperwork from the white backpack in the passenger seat. During this interaction, he appeared to have difliculty focusing on any given task. At this time, he had still not provided his licease and refused to identify himself.
Shortly alter, Deputy Mangold arrived on the scene and approached the driver’s side of the vehicle. At this point, Deputy Mangold observed THC concentrate in piain view, marked in red and not contained in a prescription container. When asked to provide a medical marijuana card, the driver could not provide any documentation. Additionally, the THC concentrate was open and not sealed.
Based on the piain-view observation of a controlled substance, a probable cause search of the vebicle was conducted. As we instructed the now-identified driver, Brett Shank, lo exit the vehicle, he became argumentative and refused to comply. He was ordered to exit the vehicle and face the car. Due to his level of resistance throughout the traific stop, he was going to be detained. As he stepped out of the vehicle, he struck me with the door. Wher Deputy Mangold and I attempted to detain him, he tensed up and attempted to pull away from our grasp. Shank was then escorted and held against the vehicle until handcuffs were placed on him, checked for proper pacing, and double-locked.
A search of his denim pants yielded three (3) ampbetamine/dextroamphetamine pills, which were not contained in a prescription bottle, as required by law. A search of the white backpack yielded:
