PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman walking in a Publix parking lot was struck and killed by a small truck that police say had the right of way. Janice Stein, 74, of 2560 South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach was struck and killed Tuesday morning. (An initial report from police stated she was struck in early March. That was later corrected).

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Stein had just parked at the Publix at 262 South Ocean Boulevard in Manalapan in the minutes before she was killed. Here’s the official narrative from investigators:

“The driver of an Isuzu NRR was traveling southbound within the Publix parking lot. Janice Stein had exited the driver’s seat of her vehicle and began walking from west to east across the parking lot, and traveled improperly into the path of the truck.

During the crash, the right of the truck impacted into the left side of Stein. As the crash ensued, Stein was knocked to the ground and the truck traveled over her. The driver slowed and stopped a short distance from the impact area.”

No charges have been filed against the driver of the truck who lives in Boynton Beach. The investigation continues.
