BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton resident Deborah Botfield, at age 58, is likely to know that driving under the influence of alcohol, and fleeing police, are generally frowned upon. Consider her frowned upon. Botfield, of the 8300 block of NW 9th Avenue, is now facing charges for both. BocaNewsNow.com obtained Botfield’s arrest report after he husband allegedly called police to say he feared she was driving drunk on May 11th:
>> The caller advised that his wife, Deborah Botfield, was operating her vehicle, blue BMW, while under the influence of alcohol. BRPD dispatch advised that the vehicle was showing stationary in the area of 3900 N Federal Hwy. At 2111 hours I located the vehicle, 2023 BMW X3 (Texas tag) was observed on the north side of the Walgreens parking lot parked across multiple parking spaces. I approached the driver side of the vehicle which had the front windows down and I could clearly see the driver later identified as Deborah Botfield. While speaking with her she could clearly see that I was a uniformed police officer. Deborah, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was told to stop and put her vehicle in park.
I could smell a clear and overwhelming odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle, Deborah had slurred speech, and glassy eyes. Deborah put her vehicle into drive and began driving. Deborah refused to stop, saying she was going to park her vehicle. She then exited the parking lot and left north on N. Federal Hwy. BRPD dispatch attempted to make land line with Deborah in an attempt to get her to stop driving. It was clear and evident that she was refusing to stop in an attempt to elude law enforcement. At approximately 2117 hours, I spoke with Deborah over the phone, and she advised that she was passing Costco (17800 Congress Avenue). She then advised that she was at the Hilton Garden Inn (8201 Congress Avenue).

At 2130 hours I observed her vehicle pulling out of a parking space at the Mobil Gas Station (8081 Congress Avanue). I conducted a traffic stop on the blue BMW X3 at the exit to the parking lot. Upon approaching the driver side of the vehicle, Deborah exited the driver seat. I identified Deborah as the same female that I had made contact with in the Walgreens parking lot. It should be noted that from 3900 N Federal Hwy to 8081 N Congress Avenue it is approximately 4.5 miles. I stood with Deborah outside of her car, she could not remember our interaction in the Walgreens Parking lot from 11 minutes ago. She stated that she had two Modelo brand baers this morning at 0800 hours. While standing with her outside of her car I could again snell a distinct odor of alcoholic beverage, she had noticeably slurred speech, and watery / glassy eyes. I asked Deborah if she wanted to participate in field sobriety tasks, she said no. I then informed her of her Taylor Warnings explaining to her my observations and concerns. I explained what the field sobriety tasks were that she would be performing, she again refused.
Based on my observations, interactions, training and experience I found that Deborah Botfield was in violation of F.s.s. 316.193(1A), DUI, after she was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the times that she was observed operating her motor vehicle. Additionally, based on my first interaction with Deborah I found that she was in violation of F. S. S316.1935 S316.1935(1), Fleeing and Eluding, after she failed to comply with my lawful order to stop her vehicle and leaving the area.
Deborah was transported to the Boca Raton Police Department where Ofc. Price responded as the Breath Test Operator. After Deborah was renoved from my BRPD marked unit (Unit 478), the back seat had a distinct odor of alcoholic beverage. It should be noted that during this shift no one but Dabroah has been in the back of my assigned marked unit. A 20-minute observation was conducted at 2203 hours. I requested that Deborah submit to a lawful test of her breath, she refused. I then read Deborah her implied consent warnings and stated that she understood what she was read, she again refused. While in the BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) room, Deborah stated that she consumed wine. Deborah was transported to PBCJ. <<
Deborah Botfield was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released on $8,000 bond. A court date is pending.
