MARATHON RUNNER PRESENTS WITH SHORTNESS OF BREATH. NURSE SAYS IT’S ANXIETY. GIVES PREDNISONE. NOW PARTIALLY PARALYZED.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Dr. G’s Urgent Care, the chain of “doc in a box” locations based in Delray Beach, is facing a major medical malpractice lawsuit. The suit claims that Lauren Truelove, a young marathon runner from Lake Worth Beach, sought care for atypical shortness of breath. Instead of providing a thoughtful, medical-based analysis, a nurse allegedly diagnosed Trulove as suffering from “anxiety” and gave her albuterol and prednisone. Days later, Truelove was airlifted to JFK Medical Center where she required emergency surgery for blood clots. She remains partially paralyzed.
The suit, filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and published in its entirety, below, alleges that Dr. Mylissa Graber — “Dr. G” — has refused to provide medical records to Ms. Truelove’s attorneys as required under Florida Statute. The attorneys have made multiple requests, according to the complaint, all of which have been ignored.
The complaint also outlines the allegation of the care — or lack of care — Ms. Truelove received when she sought help from Dr. G’s Urgent Care:
>> On November 25, 2024, LAUREN TRUELOVE presented to Dr. G’s Urgent Care due to severe sudden shortness of breath, pain while breathing and moving, and having a high heart rate while at rest. She advised the medical providers at Dr. G’s Urgent Care, including but not limited to, nurse Courtney Distefano-Manolas RN, and the Defendant, MYLISSA GRABER M. D., of her symptoms and that said symptoms were very unusual as she was a marathon runner and in good health. Plaintiff also told the medical providers that she had recently been on a long flight for a work conference. Despite obvious signs and symptoms of Plaintiff experiencing a pulmonary embolism, the medical providers of Dr. G’s Urgent Care, including but not limited to, nurse Courtney Distefano-Manolas, RN and the Defendant, MYLISSA GRABER M. D., failed to timely and appropriately diagnose or treat Plaintiff for said condition. Moreover, these medical providers, including the Defendant, MYLISSA GRABER M. D., failed to advise Plaintiff to immediately seek emergency and/or hospital care and treatment for a pulmonary embolism. Instead, the medical providers including the Defendant, MYLISSA GRABER M. D., negligently concluded that Plaintiff was merely having “anxiety” and gave her Albuterol treatments and advised her to take Prednisone.
Due to the above failures of the medical providers including the Defendant, MYLISSA GRABER M. D., Plaintiff did not get timely and appropriate treatment for her pulmonary embolism and she was severely injured, as detailed below. On November 30, 2024, LAUREN TRUELOVE went to a second urgent care facility for the aforementioned symptoms, where the medical staff advised her to go to the emergency room for a possible pulmonary embolism. On November 30, 2024, LAUREN TRUELOVE went to the ER of HCA Florida Palms West Hospital to obtain medical treatment for her pulmonary embolism. On December 1, 2024, LAUREN TRUELOVE underwent a mechanical thrombectomy procedure. During this procedure, LAUREN TRUELOVE went into cardiac arrest. Following the procedure, LAUREN TRUELOVE was noted as having no left side movement. She was eventually taken to JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida by helicopter, where she underwent another thrombectomy procedure to remove clots in her head. <<
Dr. G’s Urgent Care had not responded to the suit through a public filing with the Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts as of Sunday, June 1st. Ms. Truelove is represented by Thomas Chapman of NextGen Injury Law in West Palm Beach.

This is scary. I recently had a long flight from the UK to Florida and I went to the doctor a few days ago with a terrible cough. I told the doctor about the flight and he did ask more questions, but it was just a cough and nothing more. At least he paid attention to the long flight incase it was more than a cough. Sorry for the person who had to go thru what they did now. Hopefully there will be a full recovery. I cannot imagine how I would feel if this happened to me.
Medical services in So Florida is beyond scary.
Unfortunately unprofessional treatment is too common at Dr G’s. And if you want to contact Dr G or a manager to discuss, there is nobody to speak with, nobody returns your call, no response.
Just a threat to pay your bill or be sent to collections.
My ex wife’s cousin was a very famous cardiologist. He always said “nurses are idiots”. Moral of this story: if you don’t feel well go to the ER of the closest hospital. These urgent care centers are good for dressing a wound and nothing else.
What a ridiculous comment. The very famous cardiologist must have been very famous is his own mind. You must be just as smart to repeat that comment. I hold no position in the medical field but nurses do a tremendous service. They’re the first line of defense for any and all sicknesses. Shame on you!
