BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It is more likely than not that the smell of smoke will be noticeable in Boca Raton, Coconut Creek, and Deerfield Beach on Monday. Broward County says its planning a “prescribed burn.” Here’s the official announcement:

>> Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, along with the Florida Forest Service, is scheduled to do a prescribed burn of approximately five acres of scrubby flatwoods at Military Trail Natural Area (4600 N.W. Ninth Ave./N. Military Trail, Deerfield Beach, FL 33064) weather permitting, on Monday, July 28, 2025. The natural area will be closed for the day.

Prescribed fire is a management tool we must use to maintain natural areas. In addition to increasing biodiversity and improving wildlife habitat, this management tool is essential to maintaining various vegetation communities and will decrease the threat of a catastrophic wildfire by reducing the thick undergrowth.

The prescribed burn will be conducted by Broward County Parks in conjunction with professionally trained firefighters from the Florida Forest Service.

Specific weather conditions are required for the prescribed burn to be conducted. If the weather conditions are not met on the day of the burn, the fire will be rescheduled to another day. <<
