BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Monday is the first day of school for public school students across Palm Beach County. If you’ve been out of town for the past several weeks, note that several municipalities have installed school speeding zone cameras which are now active. While it may take a few weeks for these systems to ramp up, Florida law now permits law enforcement to issue “tickets ”notices of violation” in school zones using unmanned cameras. These are violations that result in a fine for the owner of a vehicle, but no points — unless you ignore the violation that you receive in the mail.
Read our coverage of the speeding cameras here. Here’s the Cliff’s Notes version: A civil penalty of $100 will be issued to the owner of a vehicle that is documented by a camera speeding in a school zone. The cameras will be active 30 minutes before the school day starts and for at least 30 minutes after the school day ends.
While cameras can lead to notices of violation, real police officers will also be in school zones issuing real tickets. A school zone speeding ticket issued by a police officer starts at $156 and adds three points to your license, all the way up to $456 and 6 points if your speeding causes a crash.
BocaNewsNow.com will publish violations issued to people excessively speeding through school zones. Check back over the next few weeks for updates.
