UPDATE at 1 PM — All lanes have reopened, according to FDOT.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A major early morning crash on Alligator Alley continues to keep all southbound lanes closed as of 9 a.m. Saturday. The closure is causing major traffic issues as the holiday weekend gets underway.
While confusing in its naming, the closed lanes are the southbound lanes. In Alligator Alley “speak,” the southbound lanes (which actually run west-east for most of Alligator Alley), are the lanes used to drive from Florida’s west coast to Florida’s east coast. Northbound lanes travel from Fort Lauderdale to Fort Myers and beyond.
According to initial information from the Florida Department of Transportation and emergency rescue sources, the tractor trailer jackknifed around 1:30 a.m. as part of a larger crash. Two people were airlifted to hospitals. At least person died. The crash location is right on the Broward/Collier County Line.
FDOT is encouraging motorists to stay off of Alligator Alley in the area. Officials provided this detour information: Detour Information
