BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Broward Sheriff’s Office Detectives say they’ve got the guys responsible for 2019 murder in Pompano Beach. BSO issued this advisory to BocaNewsNow.com following the announcement of two indictments on Saturday:
A grand jury has indicted two men in connection with a 2019 murder in Pompano Beach, with one suspect already in custody and the second recently located in another county.
Just after 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 327 S.W. Second Court in Pompano Beach and found an adult male who had been shot and was unresponsive. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the victim, identified as 32-year-old Clarens Calixte, to Broward Health North where he was pronounced deceased.
Homicide detectives identified the suspects through extensive investigative work, piecing together evidence that ultimately led to the grand jury indictments of Benson Blaise and Derrick Jules.
Following the indictment, Blaise, who was already in BSO’s Main Jail on unrelated charges, was formally charged and booked in connection with the case. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service, members of BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) and the Fugitive unit successfully located Jules in Tampa. He was taken into custody without incident.
Both men now face first-degree murder charges stemming from the 2019 killing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
