New Boca Raton City Manager Is Now On The Job

We told you months ago that the highly credentialed Sohaney would replace retiring City Manager George S. Brown. It has now happened. Here’s the official announcement from the City of Boca Raton:

>> The City of Boca Raton announces that Mark Sohaney officially begins his service today as City Manager. With more than 37 years of leadership in naval administration, strategic planning, and infrastructure management, Sohaney brings extensive expertise in guiding large, diverse communities.

As City Manager, Sohaney will oversee the City’s eight main departments and nearly 1,800 employees, leading the day-to-day operations that deliver high-quality services to residents, businesses, and visitors.

Most recently, Sohaney served as CEO of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, overseeing operations supporting more than 93,000 people and facilities valued at $30.8 billion. He also previously led Naval Air Station Key West, the largest employer and landowner in the Florida Keys. His background includes directing major infrastructure modernization projects, developing comprehensive land-use plans, and leading large-scale emergency preparedness initiatives – skills that align with Boca Raton’s priorities for growth, sustainability, and resilience.

Sohaney said he is honored to join Boca Raton, describing it as “a city people are proud to call home.” As City Manager, he emphasized that communication, transparency, and engagement will be top priorities, ensuring residents and stakeholders are part of the conversation on City initiatives and progress. He also highlighted his commitment to supporting the City’s talented workforce and maintaining Boca Raton’s reputation for outstanding quality of life.
