DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The City of Delray Beach is moving forward with a major multi-million-dollar beach nourishment project designed to restore and strengthen its shoreline. Led by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, the contract has been awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for mid-December, with the project expected to be completed in early 2026.

The project will deliver new sand to replenish eroded areas, restore public recreational spaces, and reinforce the city’s natural defenses against storms and rising sea levels. Officials say the effort is a critical investment in coastal resilience and environmental protection that is also expected to enhance tourism and support the area’s long-term sustainability.

Funding for the initiative comes from a wide-ranging partnership, including the federal government, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Palm Beach County, and the City of Delray Beach. The project is supported by the Fiscal 2025 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, representing a collaborative commitment to preserving Florida’s coastline.

“Delray Beach is proud to be taking this important step toward protecting our coastline and ensuring the future vitality of our community,” said City Manager Terrence Moore. “This project reflects the strength of our partnerships at every level of government and our shared commitment to a resilient Delray Beach.”
