LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Lake Worth Beach bicyclist has died from injuries he sustained after being struck by an SUV on Halloween, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. Louis Simon, 61, passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center on Monday, November 3, nearly four days after the collision.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on October 31 at the intersection of Lucerne Avenue and N H Street. According to investigators, Simon was riding his Trek bicycle westbound in the designated bicycle lane on Lucerne Avenue. At the same time, a 2023 Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound on North H Street.

The sheriff’s office report states the driver of the Toyota, 60-year-old Melina Mercedes Pablo Andres, accelerated from a stop sign, crossing Lucerne Avenue and driving into the bicyclist’s path. Simon collided with the passenger side of the SUV and was ejected from his bike.

Responding Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews treated Simon at the scene for critical injuries sustained when his head impacted the pavement. He was then rushed to the hospital. Andres, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the crash. The investigation continues.
