A person has died following Thursday morning’s crash near Boca Raton Town Center Mall.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Pompano Beach man is dead following a two-car crash on West Glades Road early Thursday morning, according to the Boca Raton Police Services Department. The crash occurred around 6:00 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Glades Road, shutting down the area as investigators processed the scene.

Police say the crash involved a 2010 Dodge Caliber and a 2025 BMW X1. According to the initial investigation, the Dodge Caliber was traveling west and attempted to make a left turn. As it turned, it crossed into the path of the eastbound BMW, which then collided with the right side of the Dodge.

The passenger in the Dodge, identified as 47-year-old Yonin Mejia Rodriguez, was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Dodge, 37-year-old Edgar Eduardo Munoz Avendano of Pompano Beach, sustained minor injuries. The BMW’s driver, 61-year-old Ashaki Sutton of Tamarac, was also treated for minor injuries.

The Boca Raton Police Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating the cause of the fatal collision. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward. If you have any information, you are urged to contact Officer Felix at (561) 620-6163.
