PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County man says his $90,000 2025 Hummer EV is a “lemon,” and he wants General Motors to pay up. Plaintiff Christopher Jerez alleges the new electric truck, purchased in February from Schumacher Automotive, suffers from significant defects that the manufacturer has been unable to fix despite multiple attempts.
According to the complaint reveiwed by BocaNewsNow.com, Jerez’s Hummer experienced major issues shortly after he drove it off the lot. The suit claims the vehicle has a “defective engine transmission, and/or electrical system” which is evidenced by the vehicle’s high-voltage battery failing to charge past 27 percent. The vehicle also allegedly displays a “service high voltage system message” and has a defective climate control system that blows warm air.
The lawsuit states that Jerez delivered the Hummer to GM’s authorized dealership network, including Schumacher Auto Group where he leased it, on “numerous occasions” to address the problems. The complaint says that the vehicle “has been subject to repair on at least three (3) occasions for the same defect, and that the defect remains uncorrected.” A dealer must be given three opportunities to fix a car under Florida’s “lemon law.” Jerez, who is represented by the law firm Krohn & Moss, is suing General Motors for Breach of Written Warranty under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
The Hummer, which had a gross capitalized cost of approximately $93,759, came with a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile electric vehicle propulsion battery warranty. The suit argues the limited repair warranty “failed of its essential purpose.”
The complaint argues that the defects have “substantially impaired the value of the Hummer” and that Jerez has “justifiably lost confidence in the Hummer’s safety and/or reliability.” The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus incidental and consequential damages, attorney’s fees, and court costs. Jerez has demanded a trial by jury.
