BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It is going to be a very difficult week ahead for motorists who use the Florida Turnpike in South Florida. BocaNewsNow.com normally provide a traffic preview on Sundays, but the situation with the Florida Turnpike may be so challenging that we are publishing this information a day early so you can start to plan now. We are also including other major road issues that may affect you over the next several days.
Palm Beach County Improvement Projects
Motorists in Palm Beach County will encounter work near Boynton Beach and West Palm Beach. The northbound Turnpike/SR 91 exit ramp to Boynton Beach Boulevard/SR 804 (Exit 86) will have a full ramp closure nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, Dec. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 4. The detour directs traffic to use the Atlantic Avenue exit, travel west on Atlantic Avenue, and then north on U.S. 441/SR 7 to reach Boynton Beach Boulevard. Widening projects on the Turnpike also require single lane closures nightly between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lake Worth Road (Mileposts 87 to 95) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 4.
South Florida Turnpike Extension Closures and Detours
In Miami-Dade County, travelers on the Turnpike Extension/State Road (SR) 821 face several overnight closures between Campbell Drive and Tallahassee Road. A full ramp closure is also scheduled nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the northbound SR 821 entrance ramp from Cutler Ridge Boulevard/SW 211th Street, Monday, Dec. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 4. Detour information for this closure directs eastbound Cutler Ridge Boulevard traffic to use Frontage Road North, Caribbean Boulevard/SW 200th Street, and U.S. 1 to access the northbound Turnpike. Farther north on SR 821, between NW 106th Street and Interstate 75 (I-75), single and double lane closures are planned nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., from Tuesday, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 4, and an earlier closure starts at 10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.
Broward County and Sawgrass Expressway Work
The Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869) will see significant closures in Broward County as part of widening and interchange improvements. Full overnight ramp closures are scheduled at the Atlantic Boulevard interchange (Exit 8), nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 4. Additionally, all ramps at the Sample Road interchange (Exit 11) will have full overnight closures from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the same timeframe, though authorities note that the northbound and southbound ramps will not be closed simultaneously. Daytime single and double lane closures are also scheduled on eastbound and westbound Sample Road/SR 834 near the expressway from Tuesday, Dec. 2, through Friday, Dec. 5.
Central Turnpike Mainline and Safety Upgrades
In Martin County, a full overnight ramp closure is scheduled for the southbound Turnpike/SR 91 entrance ramp from Becker Road from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, through Thursday, Dec. 4. This work is part of a bridge improvement project at Milepost 138 over the C-23 canal.
