Detectives with the agency’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) unit located and arrested the suspect on Tuesday, Dec. 2, following an investigation into the deadly violence just days before Thanksgiving.
Police say the incident began on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 25, when deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel rushed to the 600 block of West Sample Road around 7:30 p.m. responding to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders discovered 52-year-old Tyrone Holton of Deerfield Beach lying in the parking lot of a local food store, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported the victim to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead.

As investigators worked the scene, they discovered that a second victim — Derek Floyd — had also been struck by gunfire during the altercation. Authorities say this individual was driven to a hospital by a private citizen to receive treatment for their injuries. BSO Homicide Unit detectives quickly took over the case, eventually identifying Clarence Flournory as the primary suspect and establishing probable cause for his arrest.
Following his capture on Tuesday, investigators say Flournory confessed to the shooting. He has since been booked into the Broward County Main Jail and faces severe charges, including first-degree murder with a firearm, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a violent career offender.
