The off-duty deputy’s actions are now under investigation. One person was found dead near the home of a law enforcement officer in unincorporated Boynton Beach around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Initial confusion at the scene led some officials to believe that a law enforcement officer was a victim.
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the deputy was not injured — despite initial reports from sources that he had been shot multiple times. Officials now tell BocaNewsNow.com that the deputy was off-duty and involved in some sort of “altercation.” It’s unclear what led to the altercation or the deceased person’s role in the altercation.
The scene, on Water Course Way in unincorporated Boynton Beach, is near the home of an address with an owner listed as “confidential” in public records. The designation is routinely used for law enforcement professionals in the State of Florida. Witnesses say a marked PBSO patrol car was seen in the driveway at the scene of the incident, leading several officials to initially believe the victim was law enforcement.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates all incidents regarding police-involved shootings. FDLE has not yet issued a statement on this incident. The identity of the victim had not been released as of 9:25 Sunday morning.
