RIVIERA BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A teenager shot by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy in November has been arrested and charged after being released from the hospital. Andre Mayard was discharged on Saturday, December 13, 2025, and immediately taken into custody. He now faces two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a deadly weapon following the confrontation that left him critically injured last month.

The incident began on the evening of Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 7400 block of 43rd Terrace North in unincorporated Riviera Beach. When investigators arrived around 6 p.m., they initially spoke with a woman standing in the home’s carport to gather information about the situation. While deputies were speaking with her, Mayard exited the home, walked past the woman, and retrieved a large machete from nearby bushes.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the situation escalated quickly as Mayard began advancing toward the deputies while swinging the machete above his head. Deputies say they immediately backed away and attempted to de-escalate the situation, issuing numerous verbal commands for him to drop the weapon. Despite the repeated orders, Mayard allegedly continued to move toward the law enforcement officers. A deputy then discharged his firearm, striking Mayard.

Deputies on the scene rendered aid before Riviera Beach Fire Rescue transported Mayard to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his release this weekend. The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard agency protocol for use-of-force incidents.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the PBSO Violent Crimes Division are continuing to investigate the shooting.
