BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2025 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A 24-year-old Hollywood woman surrendered to authorities Tuesday following a lengthy investigation into a 2023 high-speed collision that left one person dead in Pompano Beach. Jezaniah Gonzalez turned herself in at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving with serious bodily injury.

The charges stem from an incident on May 21, 2023, at the intersection of North Andrews Avenue and West Copans Road. According to BSO Traffic Homicide detectives, Gonzalez was traveling northbound in a 2012 Ford Focus when she entered the four-way intersection against a steady red light. Her vehicle struck a 2018 Infiniti Q50, driven by Alice Mathieu, in a T-bone style collision as Mathieu was making a legal left turn on a green arrow.

The impact was so severe that Pompano Beach Fire Rescue crews were forced to remove the roof of the Infiniti to extract Mathieu and her passenger, Marquis Quashawn Walker. All three individuals involved were transported to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries. Walker was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, while the identities of the other victims remained protected under Marsy’s Law.

Investigators determined that Gonzalez was traveling at approximately 90 to 102 mph in a posted 40 mph zone at the time of the crash. This excessive speed, combined with the failure to stop at the red light, was cited as the primary contributing factor to the fatal wreck. Gonzalez remains in custody following her surrender more than two years after the initial incident.
