POMPANO BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant was arrested Wednesday night on multiple domestic violence charges. According to BSO Special Victims Unit detectives, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Pompano Beach around 7 p.m. on Jan. 7. Upon arrival, investigators spoke with Scott Nida and a woman at the scene, eventually determining that a verbal argument had escalated into a physical confrontation.

The investigation revealed a series of events that left the victim with injuries to her face and neck. Detectives report that when the woman tried to leave the residence during the argument, Nida allegedly grabbed her arm, face, and neck, squeezing to the point that she could not breathe. He is further accused of pushing her to the ground and dragging her across the lawn. Even as she tried to escape to her vehicle, Nida allegedly forced her into the passenger seat and drove away before she eventually convinced him to let her go.

Nida, who has been with the Broward Sheriff’s Office since 2005, now faces charges includiung false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation, and touch or strike battery. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail. Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony addressed the arrest in a statement, calling domestic violence unacceptable and noting that sworn members are held to the same standards as the public when accused of such crimes.

As the investigation continues, Nida has been placed on administrative investigative leave without pay. Authorities remind the community of available resources for those facing similar situations.
