FAU Medical Study

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Researchers at Florida Atlantic University are looking for local seniors to step up and help shape the future of fitness testing. The Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion is currently recruiting adults ages 60 and older for a new study based on the Boca Raton campus. The goal is to validate a brand-new way to measure aerobic fitness in older adults, ensuring that health assessments stay accurate and effective as the population ages.

If you decide to take part, you will be heading to the Functional Fitness Laboratory for two separate testing visits. During these sessions, FAU experts will walk you through various cardiovascular and functional assessments to see how your body handles movement. It is not just about physical performance, though; the team also uses surveys to get a clearer picture of your daily energy levels, quality of life, and how you handle routine activities of daily living.

Beyond helping advance local science, there are some immediate perks for your time. Participants who complete both lab visits will receive $100 in Visa gift cards as a thank-you for their contribution. Perhaps more importantly, you will walk away with valuable, personalized information about your own health and fitness levels, providing a level of data that is rarely available during a standard check-up at the doctor’s office.

The study is being spearheaded by Dr. Ashley Artese, who is currently coordinating the recruitment process. If you are interested in joining the study or simply want to learn more about what the visits entail, you can reach out to her directly via email at aartese@fau.edu. Since the study requires specific age demographics and two in-person visits, local residents are encouraged to get in touch soon to secure their spot. Again, email aartese@fau.edu for more information.
