BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating an accident that left a woman dead Saturday night in Deerfield Beach after she was struck by a car driven by a Boca Raton resident.
The crash happened just after 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 along North Federal Highway. Investigators say 57-year-old Michael Joseph Fazio — of Boca — was driving a 2024 Audi Q7 southbound in the left lane when he began merging into the middle lane. At that same moment, an adult woman was attempting to cross the highway from east to west and walked directly into the path of the vehicle.
According to detectives, the woman was struck by the Audi in the middle of the roadway. A preliminary look at the scene suggests she was not using a designated crosswalk or pedestrian area when she entered the path of travel. The impact caused significant injuries, prompting an immediate response from BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
Paramedics rushed the woman to Broward Health Medical Center, but despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead. While the investigation remains open, authorities noted that neither high speeds nor driver impairment appears to be a factor in the collision. The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
