BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person was struck and killed by a Brightline train in North Broward County Monday night.
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the southbound Brightline train struck and killed the pedestrian in the area of Hillsboro Boulevard. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Service on the Brightline tracks was stopped while Broward County Fire Rescue and the Broward Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene — only to realize there was nothing they could do to save the victim.
The person was not immediately identified. It was also not immediately clear if investigators believe this was an accident or suicide-by-train. No one on the train was injured.
Brightline is considered the deadliest rail system in the United States, with train-versus-car and train-versus-pedestrian incidents frequent in Palm Beach County and Broward County.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT RELEASED AT 11:50 a.m. — The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man struck by a train on Monday night in Deerfield Beach.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a crash involving a Brightline train in the area of West Hillsboro Boulevard and Dixie Highway. The preliminary investigation reveals that a male subject was walking westbound on the sidewalk, attempting to cross the east set of railroad tracks when he was struck by a train. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.
BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to investigate the circumstances of the incident. According to detectives, the safety equipment was working properly during the on-scene investigation.
