BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton Regional Hospital is facing a medical negligence lawsuit after a routine procedure allegedly resulted in what an attorneys claims are severe, life-altering complications for a patient. According to a complaint just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, the patient suffered a perforated rectum and bowel necrosis after nursing staff allegedly administered an enema without proper medical evaluation.

The incident occurred on December 22, 2023, just two days after the patient underwent orthopedic surgery. The lawsuit claims the patient was experiencing abdominal distention and had not had a bowel movement, which are indicators of an “ileus,” a condition where the intestines temporarily lack normal muscle contractions. Despite these symptoms, the suit claims that the attending nurse practitioner and registered nurse failed to order diagnostic imaging like X-rays or CT scans to rule out the condition. Instead, they ordered and administered a Fleet enema, which the complaint claims directly caused the severe rectal perforation.

The lawsuit accuses Boca Raton Regional Hospital of vicarious liability, stating the facility failed to properly oversee its nursing staff or train them on the specific dangers of giving an enema to a patient with a suspected ileus. Furthermore, the complaint alleges that the staff failed to call in an attending physician to evaluate the patient’s deteriorating condition and surgical abdomen, ultimately leading to the need for emergency surgery.

As a result of the alleged negligence, the patient required a colostomy and continues to suffer from permanent scarring, physical handicap, and psychological damages. The suit seeks in excess of $50,000, the statutory minimum for filing in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. The plaintiff is represented by Boca Raton Attorney Loreen I. Kreizinger, Esq. of Demand The Limits, PLLC. Read the complete lawsuit, here:
