BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2026 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man identifying himself as the owner of the popular Kanpai Sushi at 20 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton is being held on $350,000 bond after a major drug takedown by Boca Raton Police.
According to a police report reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, Jimmy Sun was stopped in the area of Palmetto Park Road and Olive Way in far East Boca while driving a white Toyota pickup truck.
Almost as if cops knew what they were looking for, the stop became more than a traffic violation after K9 Officer Ivan was brought in for an “open air sniff” of the truck. The dog allegedly alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, giving them probable cause to examine the vehicle. The search, according to the arrest report, yielded several small baggies of cocaine in the center console and a larger 64-gram bag shoved between the driver’s seat and the console.
But wait, there’s more. Police found a blue backpack allegedly containing a 319.7-gram stash of cocaine, along with 63 Adderall pills, MDMA, and Oxycodone. By the time the evidence was bagged and tagged, the total weight of the cocaine alone reached 431.4 grams. Officers also noted that Sun was carrying a small baggie of white powder in his pocket when he was taken into custody.
Sun is being held on charges of “trafficking in cocaine,” “possession with intent to sell MDM,” “possession with intent to sell oxycodone,” and “possession with intent to sell amphetamine.” Bond is set at $350,000.

The managing member of that organization is Lian He who uses the same address on Via Palladium in Boca Raton as the residential address of Jimmy Sun. We mention this because someone has aggressively been telling BocaNewsNow.com that Jimmy Sun has nothing to do with the ownership of the restaurant, despite that fact that he’s listed as “owner” in the police report — and the address is the same as the registered owner.
