
UPDATE: We thank Delray Beach PD for this official statement received at 2:40 p.m. Saturday — “The Delray Beach Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in injuries to one of our officers. The incident occurred 1:20 a.m. in the 1000-block of Congress Avenue while the officer was conducting a traffic stop. During the stop, an oncoming vehicle struck the officer’s marked patrol vehicle.
The impact caused the patrol vehicle to collide with the stopped vehicle and subsequently strike the officer. The officer was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. At this time, his injuries do not appear to be serious. Charges against the driver are pending.”

While the Delray Beach Police Department did not respond to a Saturday morning request for information, sources connected to the emergency response tell BocaNewsNow.com that the officer was struck by a vehicle around 1:20 a.m. The officer, believed to be in his 20s, was taken to Delray Medical Center — the area’s trauma center. It is not believed that his injuries are life threatening.
It was not immediately clear if the officer was on duty at the time of the incident or whether the striking was intentional by the driver of the vehicle that hit him. It’s also unclear if anyone was charged.
