Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives tell BocaNewsNow.com that the killing took place just before 1 a.m. at a home located at 2912 N.W. Second St., where both the victim and the suspect lived.

When BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, they discovered 39-year-old Karim Shouman unresponsive in the kitchen. Paramedics pronounced Shouman dead at the scene.

According to detectives, Shouman and his roommate, 33-year-old Shenard Jennings, had been involved in frequent arguments before the apparent homicide. Police say the situation escalated physically when Jennings allegedly punched and beat Shouman until he was killed.

Jennings was taken into custody shortly after the discovery and transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. He’s being held on one count of first degree murder.
