UPDATE: Witnesses Say Car Was ON TRACKS As Brightline Approached.

UPDATE 8:15 pm — Delray Beach Police just released this official statement: >>Rescue responded to a vehicle versus Brightline train collision at Lindell Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway along the FEC railroad tracks. Witnesses reported a white Honda vehicle stopped on the tracks. That vehicle was struck by a southbound Brightline train. The driver of the Honda, an adult male, became trapped inside the vehicle. Delray Beach Fire Rescue used specialized equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Lindell Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway were shut down for close to two hours. <<
UPDATE: 3:57 p.m. — Delray. Beach Police confirm the train was heading southbound at the time of the crash. There was some confusion from witnesses at the scene initially, but it was definitely heading southbound. We are awaiting additional information from police.
UPDATE: 1:48 p.m. — The train was apparently heading southbound, not northbound despite initial information from the scene. A witness also says the car was on the tracks prior to the crash. We are awaiting official information from Delray Beach PD.
UPDATE at 1:43 p.m. — The victim, believed to be in his 60s or 70s, is now being taken by ground to Delray Medical Center.

First Responders as of 1:40 are extricating the victim from the vehicle. That person will be airlifted by Trauma Hawk to Delray Medical Center for critical injuries. No one on the train was injured.
It’s unclear why the car was on the tracks as the Brightline Train approached. There is no immediate indication that crossing signals at Lindell — the scene of the crash — were not functioning.
The train was heading southbound (updated) at the time of the crash. Check back for updates. This is initial information and subject to change.
