The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Marcia Savich, 89, died Monday evening at Delray Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash. Her death follows that of 83-year-old Arline Rosalind Zeldman, who was also a passenger in the vehicle and died shortly after the incident on March 8th.
Investigators say the accident occurred around 8:15 P.M. when a 2020 Honda CR-V, driven by 87-year-old Marilyn Hazel Stein, was traveling eastbound on Flavor Pict Road. As Stein attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Via Valenza, she reportedly turned directly into the path of an oncoming 2011 Toyota Tacoma. The westbound truck, driven by 61-year-old Octave Sergo Bataille, struck the passenger side of the Honda with significant force.
The impact caused the Honda to rotate clockwise before coming to a rest in the westbound lanes facing north. Emergency responders from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue rushed all five people involved to the hospital. While the two drivers and one other passenger, 89-year-old Natalie Rosenblatt-Spitzer, were treated for minor injuries, the crash proved fatal for the two women seated in the rear and front passenger seats of the Honda.
Authorities say that nearly everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, with the exception of the Toyota driver. The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and charges are currently listed as pending.
